I. Prior to the film we discussed Dustin Hoffman and his leading man abilities. This was made clear since the first day of class as our teacher is a fan of the early part of Dustin Hoffman’s career which I had no clue existed since I just know him from the last two installments of the Meet the Parents trilogy. All the hype was well deserved though; I really enjoyed him in The Graduate. His role was one of a screw up that managed to make up for all his mistakes.
In the article they poke fun at Dustin Hoffmans stature and the size of his nose and how despite his looks he has managed to stay relevant in Hollywood throughout four decades of movie stardom. Although his leading man days are long dead and gone he still manages to stay relevant and reach a whole new crowd and audience with the comedy meet the fockers which links damn near 3 generations grandparents, parents, and children with his movie career. He goes on to explain how he is nothing like his movie idols Rock Hudson and Tab Hunter yet he eclipsed there fame and popularity.
III. The article is interesting and hilarious because everything about it is so true yet it doesn’t give Hoffman anywhere near as much credit as he deserves. Sure he is short an stumpy like a troll but he is not the only short man to make it in Hollywood, I

mean Tom Cruise doesn’t exactly tower over that many people and he managed to become an action movie star. Hoffman is a hell of an actor and his movies aren’t boring even though the graduates ending was predictable it kept me pulled in and paying attention with Hoffmans antics running all over the states at the end of the movie looking for the love of his life even though he had an affair with her mother.
IV. In all I think the graduate was the top comedy we have seen this semester over the screwball style we saw in His Girl Friday. This might be because it had an actor I had heard of and finally we were introduced to color! This movie kept me entertained as it had all the elements we like to see in a movie heroism, romance, mistakes, regret, and making up for it in the end.
