Citizen Kane

I.                    Before watching the movie citizen kane we discussed how it was a very complex movie. The professor talked about how she didn’t know what was going on the first time she saw it and it took her a while to realize what the coveted rosebud was. Once she said that I knew I was going to have trouble identifying the symbolism of it as well.
This article deals with the director of Citizen Kane Orson Welles. It deals with his passing and how his obituary is still not complete to this date. Some of his greatest films were depressing but often misunderstood. There are also vaults of unfinished footage found in his property. Some more thrilling than others. The interesting thing about the footage is that some of it is not what we have come to expect from Orson Welles and if ever released or shown to the public it could very well change people’s opinion about him and his work.
III.                Although this is the only movie ive ever seen directed by Orson Welles it seems to go hand in hand with what the article was stating. This movie indeed was very sad and depressing like most of his work as I read. This movie is regarded as one of his best and most brilliant accomplishments and is very celebrated in the movie world. However I would like to see the other

side of his work that’s was talked about in the article the non-depressing movies.
IV.                Overall I didn’t enjoy or like this movie I thought it dragged and tried to hard to send out a hidden message. When the movie ended I thought to myself what did I just watch for the past two hours as it was very confusing and I still didn’t realize what the coveted rosebud was. Then the professor explained it was even more of a disappointment I felt like it was a story that could have been told in 5 minutes and not dragged into a two hour movie. This is definitely my least favorite film to this point.
